Original Lyrics

La Vague à Lames

Today j'ai la vague à lames
Je n'sais trop pourquoi
Je sens mon coeur sur la lame
D'une vague de froid
Suis-je dans le no-
Man's land qui sait
Ou dans le no-way
Nobody knows
Si l'on joue vrai
Ou bien over play
O.K. O.K. yeah
Je nage en eau
Trouble je sais
Que ce n'est pas gai
De ma piro-
Gue je vois s'éloigner
Mes deux pagaies
O.K. O.K. yeah
Sur de l'émail
Ou du corail
Vais je m'échouer
La vague à lames
Peut être une brise de l'âme
Jaillit une lame
De couteau ça tourne au drame
En nage en eau
J'ai la fièvre
Des tropiques des marais
Frissons au dos
J'me sens glaçée
D'horreur de n'plus t'aimer
O.K. O.K. yeah
Sur de l'émail
Ou du corail
Vais-je m'échouer
La vague à lames
Peut être un brise l'âme
Jaillit une lame
De couteau ça tourne au drame
Sur de l'émail
Ou du corail
Vais-je m'échouer
Qui sait
English Translation

Unclear Wave*

Today I have an unclear wave
I don't know why
I feel my heart on a blade
Of a cold wave
Am I in the no-
Man's land who knows
Or in the no-way
Nobody knows
If we play truly
Or else over play
O.K. O.K. yeah
I swim in cloudy
Water I know
That it's not happy
From my ca-
Noe I see go away
My two oars
O.K. O.K. yeah
On enamel
Or on coral
Am I going to run aground
Unclear wave
Maybe a soul breeze
Springs a blade
Of a knife it turns to drama
Swimming in water
I have a fever
of the tropical swamps
Shivers in the back
I feel myself frozen
Of horror to not loving you anymore
O.K. O.K. yeah
On enamel
Or on coral
Am I going to run aground
Unclear wave
Maybe a soul breeze
Springs a blade
Of a knife it turns to drama
On enamel
Or on coral
Am I going to run aground
Who knows

* Okay, this is a tough one but I'll try do to my best... Serge plays on words a lot with their meaning as well as their pronunciation, so bear with me...
"La vague a lame" is a play on "la vague a l'ame". "Vague a l'ame" is a French expression that means, "to have vague yearnings", so when he says "vague a lame" he plays with the word "vague" ="wave" or "unclear" and the word "lame"= "blade" or "wave"... Basically, I really don't know how to translate this title! I think he means "unclear wave". What's for sure is that he is describing a kind of sad mood or feeling. So consider this translation as a draft because I will have to work more on it.
