Atomik Circus

Atomik Circus was presented to Vanessa under the title Atomik Circus: Le Retour de James Bataille and in the form of drawings which needed 3-D glasses. The end result, a big-budget homage to B-movie sci-fi flicks, was just as strange.

The film was written and directed by the Poiraud brothers, famous for their crazy TV commercials and music videos. Vanessa has always wanted to work with first-time directors, and sought movies that would be fun to make. Atomik Circus fit the bill. She signed up before there was a script, and with her name attached to the project, production company TF1 signed with the same good faith.

Vanessa played Concia, a singer-songwriter who rocks the guitar and dreams of a record deal. As Concia, she performed six songs on the soundtrack, singing to the music of indie band The Little Rabbits. Concia's quest for fame gets side-tracked by an attack of killer jellyfish from space. Yes. Space jellyfish. The movie was ultimately too esoteric for box office success.
