Once upon a time, there was a little boy named Joseph, who no longer wished to live in the adult world. Instead of living in the world that disappoints, he chooses to live with the toys in a department store. There he meets several colorful characters: a pink soldier looking for his lady love, a sad rag doll, a cuddly black panther, a king and queen and many more. 

 
 
Le Soldat Rose (The Pink Soldier) is a musical story for children both young and old. Written by Louis Chedid and Pierre-Dominique Burgaud, with illustrations by Cyril Houplain, the characters are voiced by Vanessa, M (Matthieu Chedid), Louis Chedid, Sanseverino, Jeanne Cherhal, Shirley and Dino, Benabar, Francis Cabrel and Alain Souchon. 

Vanessa’s character is the rag doll Made in Asia, who is sad because she comes from a country where the children work in factories all day. Vanessa sings three songs: Made in Asia; a solo performance, Un Papa, Une Maman with Cherhal, Benabar, Sanseverino, and L. Chedid; and Love, Love, Love with the entire cast. 

On Sunday, November 12, 2006, the musical story came to life in two sold-out performances at Le Grand Rex in Paris. Approximately 10,000 people, mostly children, attended the concerts and were treated to an impressive production that included all the singers who performed on the CD dressed in costume, live musicians, and a stage designed to look like a toy store. Fourteen songs were performed, including three from Vanessa, who was dressed as her character Made in Asia. (Vanessa arrived in Paris from her home in Los Angeles just for the concert.) The words and music of Le Soldat Rose have been released in two books, a CD, and a concert DVD. 
An animated film is in production.
